Negative influences such as peer & family pressures are examined.  Other common pitfalls such as drugs & alcohol, procrastination and rationalizations are also examined to see how they affect decision-making skills.

Content is based on the premise that violence is never acceptable and that any lasting solution to a problem must be achieved through negotiation and compromise.

Individuals learn key skills and coping strategies in such areas as expressing strong feelings, dealing with family responsibilities, managing interpersonal relationships, abusing alcohol and drugs, and managing stress.  Issues of self control and control of others is also examined.  Discussions focus on how to avoid difficult situations, button pushers, negative influences, etc.

The ACF Anger Management program also gives offenders the opportunity to learn and practice skills that will allow them to effectively manage their emotions, and encourages them to positively control their behavior and the events in their lives.

Bad Check1

Theft Program:

Iincludes Shoplifting / Theft / Grand Theft / Theft by Check / Credit Card Fraud

The ACF Mileposts Theft Program is a cognitive behaviorally based education program designed to help make a correction with those challenged with the issues concerning theft behaviors.  Just as people are unique, so are the reasons behind the various forms of theft.  Circumstances and situations vary widely as do the reasons why people choose to steal.  Specific discussion concerning the law is explored in a meaningful way to help participants understand what actions are actually considered theft.  Prevention efforts are currently very sophisticated and state of the art. Consequences may be severe.  It is shared with each class, "It isn't a question of if you will get caught, only when" ...if you continue to steal.  Each participant is encouraged to examine all of the situations in the class so as to better prepare for similar temptations.  All question are encouraged.

ACF Mileposts classes are conducted in a format allowing each client live, hands on involvement.  Appropriate for those offenders who may need the educational advantage to help insure they will not re-violate (Misdemeanor or Felony).  Minimum age is 18 yrs., and not gender specific.  No minimum educational level is required since the program is primarily discussion.  Elderly participants are very appropriate to help them deal with their unique challenges.  Family members, friends and interpreters welcome at no charge (one per class participant).  No pre-qualification requirements, pretesting or other means of targeting the "easy cases"     are used to improve our recidivism numbers that are about 2.3 to 7% statewide.

Impulse Control

Each year, millions of dollars are lost because one person chooses to take another person's property. This program demonstrates how attitudes can override a person's sense of right and wrong and cause them to behave contrary to their basic values and beliefs.

Understanding why a person shoplifts, and learning to behave differently when similar circumstances arise is the focus of this program. Offenders will learn how certain attitudes can override their sense of right and wrong and cause behavior that contradicts their beliefs and values.

The negative impact of shoplifting on society, the retailer and the offender's self-esteem will be explored. The program helps participants recognize the factors that led to their behavior and teaches them the skills required to make a better choice in the future.

Each person is encouraged to accept his or her mistakes and make a commitment to never repeat the act again. Participants will regain the self-confidence they lost through the act and strengthen their ability and resolve to act in a positive manner.

During the Shoplifting program, participants will:

1. Understand the process of changing negative behavior.
2. Discover how attitudes can override values.
3. Learn how to avoid negative influences.
4. Develop a plan to alter present behavior.
5. Establish positive, goal-directed behavior patterns.
6. Understand what led to unlawful behavior.
7. Learn about themselves and others in their lives.
8. Acquire the skills needed to successfully change their negative behavior.
9. Make a firm commitment never to shoplift again.
